Terms of service

Capto Audit is software for running audit engagements. It prepares work, keeps a record of it, and holds the documents an engagement depends on.

This is the most important thing on this page.

Capto Audit automates preparation. It does not form an opinion, it does not provide assurance, and it is not a substitute for professional judgement. Every conclusion, every review and every sign-off is the act of a named person who is responsible for it. Where the software suggests something, a person must accept it before it counts, and the record shows who did.

Responsibility for the audit — for its conduct, its conclusions, and its compliance with the standards and law that apply to it — rests with the firm and the individuals signing it. Nothing here transfers any part of that.

Accounts are for named individuals. Shared accounts break the record of who did what, which is the point of the product, so they are not permitted.

A firm’s administrator decides who belongs to the firm and what each person may do. The firm is responsible for keeping that list correct, including removing people who leave.

Engagement content — working papers, conclusions, client documents — belongs to the firm that created it. We hold it to provide the service and act on the firm’s instructions about it. We do not use it for any other purpose.

• Do not upload anything you have no right to hold.
• Do not attempt to reach another firm's data. Firms are separated at the data layer, and probing that boundary ends access.
• Do not share client portal links beyond the person they were issued to — possession of the link is what grants access.

The product is pre-release. There is no uptime commitment, no support commitment, and no guarantee that data entered during this period will be carried forward. It should not be relied on for a live engagement until that changes and this page says so.

These terms will change as the product is finished. The effective date at the top says when this version was written.
